Carpet cleaning Krakow

Carpet and rug makers recommend extraction cleaning every 12 to 18 months in a home without pets and every 6 to 12 months where a dog or cat lives. A rug in a child's room, where a toddler spends half the day, is worth cleaning every six months, because dust and mites collect precisely in the pile at floor level. Office and corridor carpet walked on by dozens of people a day needs cleaning twice a year; otherwise the traffic lanes set and never come out.

Outside that rhythm there are moments when cleaning makes sense right away: a fresh wine or coffee stain, a pet accident, recovery from an illness, a baby starting to crawl, moving into a flat with carpet left by the previous tenant, a rug bought second-hand, handing back a rented flat, preparing a short-let apartment between guests, and spring, after a whole winter of salt and sand carried in on shoes.

There is no point cleaning a rug whose pile is worn to the backing, whose underlay is crumbling, or a fitted carpet in a damp room without ventilation, because it will dry too slowly and start to smell musty. Jute, sisal and viscose we treat dry only. In such cases we say so during the confirmation call, not after arriving.

We clean carpets across the whole of Krakow with travel included: from Nowa Huta and Bieńczyce to Bronowice and Zwierzyniec, from Prądnik Biały to Swoszowice. Most of our rugs are in Podgórze, Krowodrza, Dębniki and Ruczaj, where families with small children and dogs live in the new estates. In the tenement houses of the Old Town and Kazimierz we meet old wool rugs and kilims, where the dye test and lukewarm water matter; in houses in Zielonki, Wieliczka and Skawina we more often clean fitted carpet upstairs and runners on the stairs.

Fitted carpet cleaning is a large part of our business work in Krakow. Office carpet in Zabłocie, Czyżyny or Podgórze is cleaned after hours or at the weekend, in strips, so that staff walk onto a dry floor in the morning. For clinics, law firms, shops and hotels we issue VAT invoices, and with regular cooperation we agree a discount based on frequency. On large areas we work in pairs to finish in one evening.

We combine rug cleaning with other services in one visit: sofa and armchair cleaning, mattress cleaning, cleaning a flat after a tenant, or ozone treatment when a whole room needs to lose the smell of smoke or animals. One crew and one journey cost less than three contractors on three different days, and the rug and sofa dry at the same time.

Cleaning a wool rug starts with checking the dye holds: a damp white cloth pressed to the edge for a minute tells us everything. Wool gets lukewarm water and a pH-neutral agent, because hot water and alkaline detergent felt the fibre and yellow light colours. It dries longer, with a window ajar, and no furniture goes on it until morning. Kilims and hand-woven rugs with natural dyes get an even gentler version, and when there is a risk of bleeding we honestly suggest dry cleaning.

Fitted carpet glued to the floor is a different case from a rug: it cannot be turned over or carried out, and underneath is foam or felt that must not soak through. So we work with less water, recover moisture several times and keep an eye on ventilation. Traffic lanes by doors and under desks get a pre-spray and a second pass, because dirt pressed into the pile by shoes does not come out first time. We move light furniture ourselves; heavy wardrobes and shelving stay where they are.

The hallway runner and the doormat are the dirtiest textiles in a home: sand, road salt, mud and wet shoes all winter. We clean them on both sides and leave them draped over a chair so air reaches the underside. A children's rug or bathroom mat is added to the visit for a few dozen złoty when we are coming for the big rug anyway. Fringes are cleaned with a separate brush and a whitening agent, as an add-on from the price list, because they are the most delicate and labour-intensive part of a rug.
